Multi-Tiered System of Supports
The MTSS for Remote Online Learning Environments expands on the Florida Department of Education’s MTSS Four-Step Problem Solving Process through the addition of considerations related to accessibility, assessment, interventions, data collection, and progress monitoring.
The Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) has developed a technical assistance guidance document (PDF) that details a four-step process through which to identify and develop interventions for behavioral and academic problems in hybrid and remote online environments (called “innovative” environments in text). iDEC researchers analyzed the FLDOE approach and enhanced the four-step process by adding careful considerations unique to what teachers and parents report when students are learning online. iDEC researchers believe the additions bring a more comprehensive perspective to tiered systems of support for teachers who find themselves newly immersed in teaching remotely. Further, this comprehensive approach addresses the critical element of parent and caretaker engagement.
